Thunor
Redbeard
God of Strength and Thunder
Protector of Mankind
Thunor (also known as þunor, Þórr or Donar; Proto-Germanic *þunraz) is the Germanic God of strength, thunder, storms, protection, hallowing, boundaries and agricultural growth. As one of the most widely reverred Gods of our ancient pantheon, Thunor was popular amongst the common folk. The widespread practice of wearing his mythic hammer, Mjölnir, has survived countless eons as a symbol of warding and banishment. As the only living son to his father, Woden, he is Prince to the Gods and heir-apparent of the Ese.

Art Analysis
Mighty Thunor has ridden to take his place in this god-pole design – an idol for his worship.
Held high towards the Heavens, Thunor wields Mjölnir (Grinder) the legendary thunder-hammer. Probably the most widely known weapon of the Gods here in Middangeard, the Ettinbane grips its handle as a lightning bolt strikes it from above. The head shape of the hammer is based on a Danish find from Rømersdal, with the embedded circles based on an English find in Gilton, Kent. Consider our design of an Anglo-Danish expression!
Atop his crown sits a decorated warriors circlet; adornment suitable for Vingthor (Battle-Thor). A bushy red beard on his face is present, iconic of the Redbeard’s image. His appetite for ales and mead as all-consuming as his temper, Thunor holds an overflowing horn of ale in his left hand. The idol shape remains consistent, as does the Sonnenrad (Sun-Wheel) to symbolise divinity.
None but the Friend of Mankind could have been the next choice in our collection. This would make a very powerful and recognisable idol for the altar, and perfect for hallowing a space. Ride true, High Thunderer!

An observant eye, a discerning mind. Both are needed in the interpretation of all things; be it understanding world politics to studying holy texts. More often than should be, we find these traits lacking in many Pagan circles - it is far easier to accept a false notion at face value than to inspect it in depth...

Her related ritual took place in an inviolable sacred grove, on an unknown island out in the ocean. Within the grove was contained a robe-covered cart dedicated to Nerthus. A single Gothi was permitted to touch the cart and was responsible for discerning Nerthus’ presence within...
